Does defending from a knife really work?

Yesterday’s knife defence workshop focused on the reality of dealing with an edged weapon. We looked at the physics of knife injuries and why knife attacks can be fast, unpredictable and extremely dangerous. Using rubber knives covered in lipstick and white T-shirts, we tested our defences under pressure. Everyone was cut or stabbed, with some simulated injuries in potentially fatal areas. The key lesson was simple: do not engage with a knife if you have the opportunity to create distance, use barriers or escape. Knife defence is not about winning a fight, it is about surviving and getting home safely.
